2014 OSMI participants
The Oklahoma Scholastic Media Initiative (OSMI) provides grants and training to secondary schools across Oklahoma to start or improve online publications.
The grant awards are divided into two categories: those for startup of new online publications and those intended to improve existing online publications.
Grant amounts have not been determined yet for 2021 applications, but we will update as soon as we can. (We are waiting to hear if we can host in-person events this summer.) Beyond funding, grant recipients will attend a summer workshop designed to facilitate advisers in carrying out their planned program. Workshop content will include general guidelines specific to creation of online publications as well as refreshers on more common topics in journalism education (writing, interviewing, photography, etc.). The grant program covers all costs of the workshop. For 2021, if we are able to host in-person trainings, OSMI will be held in conjunction with the student training program, Oklahoma Institute for Diversity in Journalism.
